Wolf Hamm's paintings mainly focus on human relations, covering the spectrum from private constellations to social and political conflicts. Like on a stage, characters are acting, interwoven with figures, ornaments, objects, nature and architecture - collages for which Wolf Hamm uses different artistic techniques. The paintings invite to be "read" as stories and to follow associative paths. They ask questions without dictating answers.

"If political art defines itself by pretension and impact, Wolf Hamm fulfils these criteria in his own way. His pretension could be to let the viewer feel that he has only this one life to live and to organise. This is probably the shocking impact described by viewers in front of the paintings. The paintings lead the audience into taboo zones of modern existence." (Rainer Bessling)
